St. Pauls 2014 Annual Meeting - Highlights

St. Pauls held its annual meeting on Sunday, January 26, following a noon potluck dinner. Eighty-two members were present. Here are some highlights from the meeting.

Treasurer Ron Peterson presented a positive financial report.

Child Care director, Stacy Shada informed those in attendance that they have received the “PELS-Providers Exceeding Licensing Standards” award two years in a row. They also received the 2013 Provider of the Year Award.

Preschool Director, Dodi Ouderkirk, also have a positive report on the quality education received by students at the preschool. This year marks the 40th year the school has been in session.

Extend the Legacy Capital Campaign Co-Chairman, Ron Peterson reported that the fund in doing well and has a balance of almost $450,000.00.

Jeff Christiansen reported that work is underway on the replacement of the heating and air conditioning system in the church. The current timeline projects the air conditioning portion to be completed by April 15 with the entire project finished in August.

The internal audit committee chairman, Gary Kruse, presented a favorable audit report and noted council has already begun action on those items in need of attention.

New council members, Marlin Legler and youth representative Joe Bamesberger were introduced. Also recognized were the new council officers for 2014, Carol Fanta, Chairman, Jennifer Mitchell, Vice-Chairman, Mike Bockoven, Secretary and Tami Towne, Treasurer.

Elections were held as follows:
  • Nebraska Synod Assembly—Jan Cook, Joe Cook, Joe Bamesberger, Phyllis Eriksen and Betty Schambach were elect-ed as voting members to the Synod Assembly May 29-31.
  • Board of Directors of Lutheran Homes (Chrysalis)—Dan Lind was elected.
  • St Pauls Christian Child Care and Preschool Board of Directors—Theresa Lange was elected as Congregation Member. Erin Lambert was elected as Community Member.
  • St Pauls Lutheran Foundation Board—Becky Peterson was elected.
The following were recognized for their service:
  • Thank you gifts were presented to retiring Council members, Diana Honore and Trisha Towne.
  • A thank you plaque was presented to retiring Treasurer Ron Peterson.
  • Eric Lorenz surprised retiring Council Chairman Jan Cook with a thank you gift.
Pastor Ed thanked the Call Committee for their service.

Walking on Water awards are presented to groups or individuals who venture out with great ideas, who exemplify Christian service and inspire others. This is the first year of these awards at our congregation. Pastor Ed Schambach presented the awards to
  • Group Award—The Christmas Dinner Committee
  • Individual Award—Ron Peterson for his many hours of service as Treasurer.
  • Individual Award—Mel Brandt for 41 years of service as Sexton.
